JLA offers support to the heritage and historic environment sector to take forward the development of business planning, conservation work and activity programmes.
JLA was established by Jane Alexander who worked across the country for the National Trust as a property professional before becoming a consultant. She has worked in the heritage and tourism sector for over 20 years.
JLA are experienced project managers and are regulated by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors. They have direct management experience of running large and small tourism businesses. They act as expert adviser, mentor and project monitor to the Heritage Lottery Fund for projects across the country.
Conservation and Landscape Management
JLA has managed the restoration of historic parkland, designed landscapes and areas for nature conservation. Projects have included a variety of habitat types.
Schemes have also involved significant archaeological survey work, preparation of management plans and public engagement and volunteering.
Parkland restorations have also included the design and siting of new visitor facilities, parking, reception and interpretation; balancing the needs of the historic or natural environment with those of visitors and income.
JLA also act as Green Flag Award judges and assess a number of parks and gardens for the award across the country each year.
Access and Learning
JLA offers guidance to support learning for all ages. This includes the development of education facilities and learning material. Jane secured a Sandford Award for Education for the programme developed at Attingham Park, Shropshire.
Experience also includes developing interpretation centres, costumed guided tours, themed trails, introductory talks, play areas and events. These have been achieved in areas such as historic industrial sites; farms open to the public, museums, places of worship and historic houses.
JLA undertake community consultation, engagement and evaluation in the support of activity plans, learning programmes and funding applications.
